side effects

Holding clutching an old time prescription bottle
with a faded label and some residue inside
you can imagine the body of whom once possessed this
how the chemical inside
opened some veins within
or quelled a nerve rotton
Or just maybe it had a Placebo type chokehold on the fear box within the mind
it freed their heart
it gave them hope
who can claim its not enough?
You lay next to her everynight
sometimes fully embraced
other times distant from the heat
you feel her fire
and you shiver from the cold
Air conditioning pumping relentless into your veins
You're  excited and you are numb
you are thrilled as you fret, terrified
You feel a whole new world
a little 3 foot bubble
with its own little ozone and zoom
continents and governments
animals and clouds
you want to wake her and show
say hey!
look! We can scrape our fingers across the plains here and cause an earthquake!
We can blow here with all of our might and be the hurricane!
We have our hand on this destiny..
We rule mighty from a well built chair
but you settle for grabbing her hand from under the covers
Alive for an early morning smile

you are an astronaut
in her galaxy
you are a flower in her box
you are a flower in her hair
You change the wires in your circuit to null
you jump posts on the harness to increase the voltage
You find yourself feining for this power
your arms ache from the absense of embrace
you wear in hard cornered stubborn contentions etched in your fiber
and
You are now an addict
for her tonic
